To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Fortune Cookie Projects, in association with The Screening Room, is pleased to present a selection of video work by some of China’s most dynamic young artists. Works by Cheng Ran, Dong Wensheng, Gao Shiqiang, Ni Keyun, Sun Xun, Chen Xiaoyun, and Zhou Xiaohu will be exhibited in Singapore for the first time.

Addressing the massive changes that China as experienced over the last two decades, these artists look to the future, but with one eye always on the past. Many of these artists are children of the Cultural Revolution and carry a deep sense of history as they straddle events in both the old and the new China.

The work on view is challenging, committed and very conceptually-based. Unlike the work from some of their more commercially-programmed contemporaries, these artists from Hangzhou and Shanghai demonstrate that art from China isn’t all painted for the market. By utilising new tools from the paintbox and an international vernacular, these artists create work that transcends borders and highlights a generation of artists that is truly the future of contemporary art in China.
